Rice Krispie Squares

Whenever I make Rice Krispie Squares, I can't help thinking of this commercial from when I was a kid. The Mother tricks her family into thinking she has been slaving all day in the kitchen to make their favorite treat. These are one of my favorites, to. They are so simple to make that I usually make up a batch and package them for my lunches. So much cheaper than buying one everyday. I like to think that because they are made from cereal, they are a bit healthy. And lets not forget that marshmallows are advertised as fat free! :-)

You can find the recipe just about anywhere, and the most likely place is on a package of marshmallows or a package of rice krispies. I pretty much have it memorized, but since I got the cereal in bulk, i used the recipe on the bag of mallows.

Rice Krispie Squares.

1/4 cup butter or margarine.
1 pkg (40) large marshmallows.
1 tsp vanilla extract.
6 cups rice krispies cereal.

Put butter and marshmallows in large microwave safe bowl. Microwave on high one minute at a time, stirring each time, until melted together. Add vanilla, stir. Add rice krispies and stir with buttered spatula until well combined. Use buttered spatula to pat mixture into greased square pan. Refrigerate until set. Slice into squares.

I have seen people dress up these little squares of perfection in many ways. M&Ms, Reece's Pieces, Smarties, drizzled in chocolate, even a layer of peanut butter in the center! I think they are delicious any way you slice them!

When I bought the Rice krispies, I misjudged how much 6 cups is. So, i ended up with twice the cereal than i needed. More squares, please! I was never wild about eating the cereal straight, i guess i need the little bit of sticky sweetness of the marshmallows thrown in.

So, another week gone. I am going to try selling my sweets at the Flea Market again Sunday, which is the reason why i made these. I may have gotten some good news on the job search today, not a job yet, just a trail that could lead to one.  I am keeping my fingers crossed! Have a good weekend, everyone!

  1. Natasha, I'm sorry nothing good is happening on the job search. Have you tried selling those cake pops at the market? They are incredibly 'in style' here!

  2. Thank you!
It is strange, but they are not big sellers. I gave away more than I sold yesterday. I offered them to people as the first is free (to hook them) after that, 1 dollar each. I even had some kids turn a free one down!
Supposedly they are the next big thing, but not in Saint John! :-)

  3. If you have your drivers license, apply at the car rental agencies uptown. They just might be hiring and it's good money too. ;)
